Founded in 1987 at the instigation of the Ministry of Culture by Vincent Berthier de Lioncourt and Philippe Beaussant, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles (CMBV) is dedicated to reviving France’s musical heritage of the 17th and 18th centuries. It rediscovers, restores, publishes and promotes the works of a period of immense richness that has long remained in the shadows.
The CMBV is based in the Hôtel des Menus-Plaisirs. Built around 1745 during the reign of Louis XV, this historic building originally housed the workshops for sets, props and accessories used for the Court’s festivities and entertainments.
